Research on the Key Technologies for Breeding and Raising of Water Fowl Has Obtained Major Achievements

State Key Basic Research Program in the period of ˇ°the tenth five-year planˇ±-- research on the key technologies for breeding and raising of water fowl, organized by the Institute of Animal Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has been examined and passed by the expert group organized by the Ministry of Agriculture through 3 years of study and a series of major achievements has been obtained.

The Key Technologies for Breeding and Raising of Water Fowl
1. 6 new lines of Beijing Duck of lean meat type and fat meat type, egg duck with high quality and production and meat goose.

2. Established testing method for duck feed metabolic energy and tested the value of 29 kinds of duck feed metabolic energy. Draft of Feeding Standard of Meat and Egg Ducks has been formulated base on the systematic research of nutritional requirement of meat duck, egg duck and meat goose for energy, protein and amino acid.

3. The method for ˇ°Fast Ultrasonic Test of Thickness of Live Beijing Duckˇ±, ˇ°Genetic Marker Subsidiary Breeding of Blood Biochemistry in Egg and Meat Duckˇ± were established and applied in practice of water fowl breeding.

4. 24 large experimental demonstration bases for meat duck, egg duck and meat goose have been constructed with annual productive capacity of 14.68 million meat ducks, 3.40 million egg ducks and 5.68 million commercial eggs, with good economic and social benefits.
