China Will Set Up the State Chief Veterinary Officer System to Prevent and Control of the Avian Influenza
Mr. Hui Liangyu, Vice-Premier of the State Council expressed a few days ago that as an important arrangement of preventing avian influenza work, the Chinese Government has approved to set up the Department of Veterinary Medicine in the Ministry of Agriculture, and set up Chief Veterinary Officer system.
Mr Hui expressed that idea during delivering the ¡°Report on National High Virulent Avian Influenza Prevention Work¡± at the 7th session of the National People¡¯s Congress on Feb. 26, 2003.
He said that the outbreak of avian influenza has exposed the vulnerability of Chinese animal disease control system, therefore the government had decided to carry out the reform program of the veterinary administration system, and increase disease control fund appropriately. Meanwhile, we have to speed up the coordination and revision of the ¡°regulation on important animal epidemic urgent affairs¡±. He further suggested that the National People¡¯s Congress Standing Committee revise and improve the ¡°Regulations on Animal Disease Control of the People¡¯s Republic of China¡±.
