China Started the Project of Domestic Chicken Genome After the start of rice genome project and domestic pig genome started to implement, the Chinese scientists have started the Research Project of Domestic Chicken Genome. According to introduction by the subject experts of biological engineering technology of the State ‘863” Program, although the avian genome represented by chicken is relatively small, yet research on chicken genome contains enormous economic potential. For example, the recognizing capacity of magnetic field by avian has been a secret waiting for human beings to solve. They can recognize direction both in daytime and at night. The solution of this secret will be of important significance for scientific research. At present, the output value of poultry accounts for about 30% of the total output value of animal production. In order to prevent the transmission of serious infectious diseases from large animals to poultry, chickens can be used as a kind of laboratory animal, using its disease model to screen out effective new drugs and pharmaceuticals.
