A New Thing in Shannan Mountain Areas: Farmers Raise Poultry while Establishing Files

There is a record like this in Contract Poultry Farmer’s File Record Card: Wang Qaunxin in The Sixth Group, LaoLonggou Village, Bailiu Town: Began to raise 650 green shell layer from Oct. 28, 2003. Attended three training courses and his poultries were quarantined 5 times by two technicians. 990 eggs were collected in Feb. 2004 and 1800 eggs were collected on March 10, 2004……This is only one example in Xingnong Livestock Development Company in Xunyang County, Shannxi Province. There are more than 106 File Record Cards in this company.
Animal Husbandry is a traditional industry in this county but limited by breeds and traditional feeding methods, especially affected by epidemic disease, big individual poultry farmers usually loss great amount of money, restraining development of poultry industry in this area. In 2001, the company introduced “green shell layer” from Jiangxi Province and constructed 3 raising bases, rearing 106 major individual poultry farmers. The company not only supplies chicks, instruments, technical and quarantine service free of charge but also collects the products regularly, establishing File Record Card for these poultry farmers. From incubation, all conditions of every chick, including growth, quarantine and egg production, etc are all recorded, implementing following the tracks of “whole course” management. “This is just like buying us an insurance”, said the local poultry farmers.
