Situation analysis for domestic egg market in the first half of 2004
Influenced by epidemical situation of AI, domestic poultry producing industry goes down generally in the first quarter of the year, and layer in stock reduces by 6% and egg production falls by 3.9% compared with the first half of 2003. This phenomenon happened to different extent in the main provinces such as Hebei, Jiangsu, Shandong and Henan. In the second quarter, production reducing of egg is slower than that of the first quarter, and slight rising appears in some provinces, thereinto, egg production in Henan province rises by 6.6% compared by the same time last year. Generally, egg production in the first half of the year keeps the same as the same time last year, but breeding profit is less than the same time last year.

From Jan to June, exported quantity of egg is 771,000,000, export value is 23,671,000USD, rising by 1.72% and 54.14% compared by the same time last year. Egg exported quantity and import value is little, and all of exported eggs are processed eggs. From Jan. to June, exported fresh egg is 644,000,000, rising by 4.64% compared by the same time last year, taking 83.53% in exported egg production, and the export value is 23,671,000USD, rising by 91.90% compared by the same time last year, taking 70.06% in exported egg production.

Countries and areas to which fresh eggs are exported to are Hong Kong, Macau and Oman, and their total exported quantity is 643,000,000, taking 99.84% of total exported fresh egg. Fresh egg export provinces and cities are Guangdong, Shandong, Hubei, Liaoning, and Beijing, export value increases to 23,467,900,000USD, taking 99.14% in export value of fresh eggs.

The first five provinces which export processed egg are: Liaoning, Fujian, Guangdong, Shandong, and Shanxi, and their total export value increases to 8,582,900,000USD, taking 85.35% in exported processed egg. Compared with the same time last year, export value in Shanxi, Guangdong and Liaoning respectively rises by 1.74times and 1.03times and 60.06%, but that in Fujian and Shandong respectively falls by 26,30% and 24.05%.

According to data from National Statistics Ministry, per capita egg consumption each month in the first half of 2004 is 0.93kg. Egg consumption in north China is relatively large. Per capita egg consumption each month in Tianjing is 1.52kg, taking the first in domestic. Egg consumption of 11provinces such as Liaoning, Hebei, Anhui, Shandong and Henan is more than the national average level. Egg consumption of Hainan is the lowest, which is only 0.26kg. Other two provinces, of which egg consumption is lower than 0.5kg, include Guizhou(0.44kg) and Tibet(0.4kg).

Domestic average egg selling price is 6.14yuan/kg in the second quarter of the year, rising by 22.49% compared by the same time last year and rising by 1.38% compared by the first quarter of the year. Average price of egg in domestic in June is 6.42yuan/kg, which is the highest price since 2002.
