Situation analysis for domestic poultry meat market in the first half of 2004
Influenced by the epidemical situation of AI, poultry industry goes down totally in the first quarter of 2004. According to the statistics, stocked poultry in 27 provinces in the first quarter of 2004 falls by 4.3% compared by the same time last year, and stocked meat chicken falls by 12.9%. Poultry stock reduces by large range in the main producing provinces such as Hebei, Jiangsu, and Shandong, and respectively falls by 9.3%, 16.7%, and 15.3%. Total supplied quantity of poultry from Jan to March keeps generally steady as the same time last year, in which poultry supply of Guangdong and Shandong falls by 6.1% and 6.2%.In the second quarter of the year, domestic poultry production is in the recovery stage, poultry production fall slower than the first quarter. Slight rising appears in some provinces, and poultry supplying in Henan rises by 2% compared by the same time of last year. According to present poultry price, meat chicken profit is small.

From Jan to June, total export value of poultry products is 223,000,000USD, falling by 46% compared by the same time last year, and import value is 106,000,000USD, falling by 45.86% compared by the same time last year, total net export value is 117,000,000USD. From Jan to June, export value of chopped entrails and poultry meat is 106,000,000USD, taking 27.85% of poultry export value, falling by 62.16 compared by the same time last year; and exported quantity is 48,900ton, falling by 67.39% compared by the same time last year.

Countries and areas to which poultry meat and chopped entrails are exported are Hong Kong, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, and their exported quantity is 35,200ton, taking 72% of exported poultry products and chopped entrails. The first five provinces exporting poultry meat and chopped entrails are Shandong, Guangdong, Liaoning, Henan,and Jilin, and their total export value is 57,511,000USD, taking 92.72% of exported poultry meat and chopped entrails. Export quantity of the five provinces falls to somewhat compared by the same time last year.

Per capita consumption of the first half of the year is 4.04kg, rising by 2.80% compared by the same time last year, and that of chicken meat is 2.47kg, falling by 5% compared by the same time last year, that of duck meat is 0.62kg, rising by 6.90% compared by the same time last year. Seen from consumption structure, chicken meat consumption in south China takes more than 15% of total meat consumption, while it is less than 10% in North China.
