China
has gained breakthrough progress on chicken genome
--Established the first
genome frame map of agricultural animal in the world, which will
result in far reaching effects on poultry breeding and disease control.
Three academic papers on polymorphism on genome of original chicken
and domesticated chicken from Beijing Genome Institute, Chinese
Academy of Science have been published on the world famous magazine
¡°Nature¡± on December 9, 2004, which is another breakthrough result
of Chinese scientists under the frame of international cooperation
since participating ¡°the Project of Human Genome¡±.
According to Mr. Liu Bin from the institute, they compared genome
frame maps of three varieties of chicken including layer, broiler
and silky fowl with that of red original chicken and found more
than 280 variation locus, supplying great quantity of material for
biological research on chicken and new basis on research for evolution
of animal genome through establishing chicken genome frame map and
comparison of genome of vertebrate and that of human.
The result has established the world first genome frame map of agricultural
animal and will push forward greatly the basic research with poultry
as model, etc.
