Fudan University Has Achieved Breakthrough in Developing Foot-and-mouth Disease Vaccine
Through ten years of cooperation and attacking strategic problems in science and technology, Prof. Zheng Zhaoxing from the Academy of Life Science, the Fudan University and Prof. Xu Quanxing from the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences have gained important breakthrough in the domain of foot-and-mouth disease gene engineering research.
Through appraisal by experts, the ¡°¡±O type virus resistant foot-and-mouth disease gene engineering vaccine¡± developed by them carries no any infectious virus, and has no side effect. After immunization, the immune animal can get protection for 4-5 months. The vaccine can have a shelf life of one year under temperature of 8¡æ, which has reached the veterinary vaccine standard of high quality.
Foot-and-mouth disease is the most serious livestock infectious disease in the world. It harms cattle swine, sheep and other artiodactyls. IOE has listed it as a Grade A infectious disease.
