Immunization System is Implemented in Shanghai
Shanghai has conducted overall mandatory immunization system on
major animal epidemics and it adopts mandatory immunization measures
to bird flu this year, which turns out to very important to epidemic
control.
Shanghai has promoted agricultural insurance since 1982. This year
the city conducts basic insurance system to all the pigs, milk cows
and poultry and the insurance rate has reached 100%. After the approval
of China Insurance Regulatory Commission, Shanghai is preparing
to establish the first professional agricultural insurance company
in China.
Recently, about 300 pig farms in the suburbs of the city have established
the production information recording system, recording in details
for animal epidemic control and quarantine. The city also conducts
immunization labeling management system to domestic animals. So
far, Shanghai has issued 8.96 million sets of pig ear tags, 110
thousand sets of cattle ear tags, and 900 thousand sheep ear tags,
and the use of immunization ear tags has reached 100%. From 2002,
over 350 thousand licensed dogs in the downtown area and suburban
towns of Shanghai have been injected with electronic tags and the
database platform of the dog raisers has been used to have an all-round
supervision and management of dogs. Meanwhile, quarantine at the
place of origin is strictly regulated to ensure the wholesomeness
of the animal to be launched on market and prevent the spreading
of epidemic diseases. So far, the quarantine rates of animals at
the places of their origin and slaughter have reached 100% in Shanghai.
