A Live Hog Reserving Base at National Level Constructed in Lanzhou

In order to guarantee the quality of meat products and their supply, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance and Agricultural Development Bank for the first time to construct a national livestock reserving base in Northeast China. The first batch of preserving plan- 4000 top quality live hogs will have been accomplished by August, 2004 and Lanzhou, Gansu Province will be the first base in the whole province.
The base has been constructed through selecting local priority enterprises to support local pig industry by soft loan and expense subsidy and Lanzhou Pig Farm, as a dragonhead enterprise, has been selected to participate the construction. At present, the farm is able to select and breed near 10000 heads of seed stock pigs including Large York, Duroc and Pietrain whose performance is close to that of international level. At same time, the model of ¡°Company+ Base+ Individual Farmer is implemented to develop commercial pig production.
