Suzhou Will Establish Gene Pool of Live Taihu Pig
Suzhou will establish gene pool of live Taihu pig in order to preserve
and develop the valuable pig resources. Within 10 years, an another
pig variety as good as Taihu pig- a national grade of pig variety
possessing special significance in scientech of animal husbandry will
have been bred.
Taihu is a pig breed with the biggest litter size in the world and
the pork is unique and very delicious. Suzhou is a major region in
feeding Taihu pig and Taihu Breeding Center was established in May
1984 and Taihu had been bred within 20 years. At present, Erhualian
and Meishan types with higher litter size from Taihu breed had been
entered into the gene pool by isolated feeding. In the coming 10 years,
the pool will effectively develop and apply the pig variety while
preserving breeding for it in order to breed another new variety.
