The study on functional genes of 16 important economic traits in pig has been completed through the study on the project of “Isolation, Cloning and Application of Functional Genes of Important Economic Traits” undertaken by Jiangxi Agricultural University.
The project group carried out a deep study on functional genes of 16 important economic traits in pig including the factors influencing growth, reproduction, meat quality and color of hair, etc. and has gained a series of innovative results, such as precisely positioning, for the first time, in the world, the genes of SCD, PGK1 and PGK2 and isolated and cloned the whole length gene series of SCD and PGK2. The results indicated that the heredity of white hair of local Chinese pig-Rongchang Pig was obviously different with that of white hair pig in foreign countries and genome of DAN pool of Chinese pig breed resources had been established. Molecular breeding technology had also been applied in selected breeding and improvement in nucleus herds in major pig farm and more than 30 quality lines have been bred.
