Su Tai Lean Pig Leap Program”± Formally Initiated
Recently, the project of the ”°Establishment and Demonstration of Su
Tai Lean Type Pig Production System”± had formally listed in the MOA
Leap Program. On August 9, the Department of Agriculture and Forestry,
Jiangsu Province convened the press releasing conference of ”°Su Tai
Lean Type Pig Leap Program”± and ”°Su Tai Pig”± extension conference
in Suzhou. This marked the formal implementation of the ”°Su Tai Lean
Type Pig Leap Program”±. Mr. Liu Liren, Vice Director of the Provincial
Department of Agriculture and Forestry attended the conference and
delivered a speech. He required that we should promote development
through reform, strive to build Su Tai Pig industrialized production
system, focused on 3 links: ¢Ł Grasp firmly the internal reform of
seed pig farm. Suzhou Su Tai Pig Breeding Center should implement
stock share operation, let enterprise operators, related research
achievement owner and enterprise employees who have hold the share
to continue to deepen the reform, improve internal management system,
and innovate enterprise operation system. Let enterprises burst even
greater livability, gain even faster and better development, maintain
the intellectual property right of Su Tai Pig, and enable Su Tai Pig
this famous brand more prosperous. ¢Ś Grasp firmly the construction
of Su Tai Pig reproduction and multiplication system. We shall form
a Su Tai Pig reproduction and multiplication system with seed pig
farm as the nucleus, the provincial pig multiplication farms as the
net and Su hybrid pig farms as the extension. ¢Ū Grasp firmly the implementation
of ”°Su Tai Lean Type Pig Leap Program”±. The project responsible units
should strengthen coordination, division of labor, taking the project
implementation as its opportunity, establish an industrialized production
chain of Su Tai Pig pork through the extension of key technology of
Su Tai Pig, through the matched technologies of modernized feeding
management and slaughter and processing technologies, through the
establishment of quality meat marketing networks. Thus we can increase
the grade of pork quality, realize the shift from traditional live
hog production system to modern quality pork production system.
Su Tai Pig, the first lean type live hog breed in Jiangsu Province,
has been listed one of the 28 extension projects of the ”°State Agricultural
Science and Technology Leap Program”±.
At present, live hog market has already realized the shift from total
volume shortage to surplus. Consumers require that live hog should
no only have fairly high lean percentage, but also maintain the style
of native pig breeds. ”°Su Tai Pig”± has been developed by using Taihu
Pig, a famous pig breed in Jiangsu Province, as the basal maternal
line, introduced the blood of Duroc boar as its paternal line. This
new pig breed has gone through 8 generations in 12 years and has condensed
industrious labor of a large group of science and technology people.
Su Tai Pig has maintained the excellent genetic gene of Taihu Pig
and has the characters of high fertility, good meat taste, and roughage
tolerance. Meanwhile, through the introduction of foreign blood, it
has the good characters of foreign excellent pig breeds, such as high
lean percentage, faster growth rate, etc. In addition, Su Tai Pig
has significant hybrid vigor and extension potential. Therefore, as
soon as the Su Tai Pig is released, it has aroused broad attention
of many people throughout the country. Now, this breed has been extended
to over 20 provinces and autonomous regions, At present, the Jiangsu
Province has approved to build 20 Su Tai Pig multiplication farms,
the whole province has 3000 heads of reproductive sows. According
to estimate, if a farmer raises one Su Tai Pig, he can increase his
income by 60 RMB as compared with that of other pig breeds.
