Hechuan City of Chongqing Municipality Established the Largest Breeding Pig Base in Asia
Hechuan City of Chongqing Municipality has used modern science and technology to remold traditional pig husbandry, established the largest breeding pig farm in scale in Asia with world first class level. At present, the first-generation commercial pigs of the farm have already gone to the market. The farm has signed the first agreement with Japan to export pork at the value of US$ 1 million.
Hechuan City is a traditional pig market, its meat output ranks first in the nation during the Seventh Five-Year Plan period while pig industry is the pillar industry of rural economy and an important farmer’s income source. However, because of poor quality of traditional pigs, weak market competitive, the price of live pig has dropped from6 RMB per kg to 3 RMB per kg, therefore, the export volume of live pig to other regions has dropped from 50% to 10%.
In 1998, Hechuan City had introduced a fund of 120 million RMB, started to build this breeding pig farm with an area of 1200 mu. At present, the breeding pig farm has built the pig house of over 30,000 square meters in floor space, a feed mill of an annual output of 20,000 tons and a meat food company. The pig farm has established breeding pig research institute, and basically formed an integrated production pattern of research, development, production and marketing. According to introduction, the seed pigs of the breeding pig farm are pigs of excellent matched lines imported from PIC Group in U.K. At present, the farm has over 3000 pigs of grandparent generation at hand. Next year, the figure will reach 10000 sows and can provide 50,000 parent and grandparent generation pigs per year, and can produce 1 million commercial pigs per year. The growing period of this excellent breed pig is much shorter (30 days) than that of the hybrid pig and the carcass lean percentage can reach 65%, meeting the requirement for export.
By adopting the model of “company + rural household” Hechuan City implements industrial operation. Rural households can raise their parent breeding pigs on the farm after the breeding sows have farrowed they can sell both commercial piglets and finishing pg to the breeding pig farm. The breeding pig farm implements the purchase at protected price, which has not only solved the fund difficulty of rural farmers, but also reduced the risk of pig production. At present, the breeding pig farm has put over 2600 breeding pigs to rural households and the pork from commercial pig has already gone to the market.
