Pattern of Swine Production
in China
At present, the native swine production is facing the transformation
from dispersing into
collectivization, from traditional feeding into modernized management,
from quantitative model
into qualitative and effective models. In some large cities and
provinces along the coast, many
large-scale piggeries are founded through fully using the technological
and economic superiority.
According to statistics, there are 3500 large-scale piggeries in
Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai,
which ranks 60% of the total slaughtered. There are more than 250
piggeries that can off take
more than 1000 pigs in Guandong province. Among of them, 43 piggeries
can offtake more than
10 thousand pigs, and 13 piggeries are founded by joint venture,
in which 35 production lines
each cml offtake more than 10 thousand pigs. In addition, there
were I598 thousand specialized
households throughout the country in 1996, 49.361 million commercial
pigs were slaughtered,
which ranked II. 7% of the total slaughtered.
