Shanghai Ensures the Safety
of Edible Meat and Implements Brand Management for 70% of its Meat
Products
Brand management is to be conducted for a series of meat distribution
enterprises like the ¡°Fuxin Slaughter House¡± and for such large-sized
wholesale markets as the ¡°Agricultural Center Wholesale Market¡±,
¡°Guotai Wholesale Market¡± and ¡°Cao¡¯an Wholesale Market¡±. As is revealed
by the Shanghai Municipal Economic Commission, this year, wholesale
markets and slaughter houses that constitute over 70 percent of
the city¡¯s distribution of meat products will be the major ones
for the implementation of the ¡°Brand Project¡± in an effort to ensure
the safety of edible meat for the citizens.
Utilizing modern information technology, Shanghai also strengthens
the management of information flow. The IC card is introduced in
the management of live pigs and meat products entering Shanghai
at the entrances to the city, in the pig slaughter houses, and on
the wholesale markets of meat and meat products. Information about
the place of origin of the live pigs or meat products, their species,
quantity, quarantine, examination, dealers of live pig wholesale
and the wholesaler is input into the IC card so that the distribution
chain is effectively monitored and traceable
