Xianhu Meat Duck Famed in China
¡°The specialized strain series of Xianhu Meat Duck ¡±, a scientific research achievement of Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Feshan Science and Technology College, Guangdong Province, has been already examined and approved as national level breed at present. This is the first scientific research project of duck approved through national level in China.

China is one of the countries with large duck population but the breeds and varieties are less diversified, which can¡¯t meet domestic demand of meat duck production and has to introduce a large number of breeder ducks of parents generation each year. Breeds of duck have deteriorated seriously after many years of reproduction due to the higher introducing cost and less economic profit.

Facing this situation, Feshan Science and Technology College started this scientific project in 1983. Through many years of selection and breeding, a couple of specialized strains of Xianhu Meat Duck - a male line and female line were successfully bred, establishing preliminarily a two-way cross productive system. Appraised by the experts in Guangdong Province in 1996, the performance of project, ¡°breeding and popularizing on specialized strain series of lean meat duck of No.3 Xianhu¡±, reached a leading level in China.

After having appraised at provincial level in China, the project was strengthened and invested further to improve breeding conditions and technology and accelerate breeding and reproduction, forming a certain scale of industrialization. In recently 9 years, it is known that more than 860 thousand parental breed ducks and 22.4 million young duck of commercial generation of the strains have been extended in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, HuBei, Hainan, Sichan Provinces, etc, with pure economic profits over 10 million Yuan (RMB). The body weight of Xianhu Meat Duck body can reach 3.439 kg at 49day age with marketing survival rate 98.64%, becoming very popular to duck farmers.
