Important breakthrough gained by Chinese pig feed industrialized
technology
Being the second largest feed producing country, China has
the largest pig population in the world with pig feed accounting
for over 40% of the total feed output in China. Feed industry
occupies an important position in national economy and is
directly related to the quality of peopleӮs living and health
of human beings. However, there is a big gap between the overall
level feed industry of China and that of the western developed
countries. The main cause is that there is a deep research
and broad extension of key pig feed industry technology and
a strong necessary technology system in developed European
and American countries. This is the important factor that
constrained a healthy development of Chinese feed industry.
To counter this problem, the project of the ”°Study on and
extension of pig fine quality and high efficient feed industrialized
key technology”± with Professor Li Defa, College of Animal
Science and Technology, China Agricultural University, as
its principal investigator has gained an important innovative
achievement in pig feed industrial key technology through
10 years of efforts. This study has clarified the mechanism
of ”°ideal protein”± promoting pig protein deposition, developed
technology of balanced pig ration formulated with ideal protein,
and constructed balanced model of digestible amino acid. The
technology has constructed the standard method for examining
the amino acid biological efficiency of pig feed. On the basis
of this, the technology can examine the components of 7 categories
of typical pig rations, and the ileum digestibility of over
60 feed amino acids. In a period of 5 years, the study had
systematically investigated the digestible energy, ileum performance
and true digestible amino acid requirements in four body weight
periods: 3 kg~8 kg, 8 kg ~20 kg, 20 kg ~ 50 kg and 50~ 80
kg. Through typical commercial pig lean meat growth index
examination in five regions; North China, South China, Northeast
China, Central China and Southwest China, the study has constructed
the first pig nutrition requirement dynamic model in China.
Integrated with the pre-study findings, the study has revised
the first version of ”°pig feeding standard in China”±. The
study has put forward an anti-stress nutrition controlling
technology for lactating sows and piglets, systematically
investigated the effect of raw material milling fineness,
homogeneous mixture, pelleting technology and expansion technology
of feed quality. The study has determined processing technology
parameters for different types of products. After organizing
experts within the industry in the appraisal, the Ministry
of Education holds the view that the research achievements
gained by the project has reached the international advanced
level, and has very strong practicality and high mature technology.
The research achievement has already been extended to over
278 feed and pig enterprises in 30 provinces, municipalities
and autonomous regions. The project has accumulatively extended
25.216 million tons of different kinds of feed with direct
economic benefit of 1.5 billion RMB significant social benefits.
