Through gene we can not only find the mysteries of pig prolific characters, but also improve pig litter size. This project entitled “Study on the Discovery of Pig High Prolific FSHβGene and Its Application” was completed by Professor Li Ning and other co-workers from the College of Biology, China Agricultural University. Experts at the appraisal hold the view that this research achievement has reached the international leading level in general. If it is applied in 73 pig farms in China, the increased annual economic benefit will be nearly 150 million RMB.

Recently, the China Agricultural University has collaborated with several domestic pig breeding companies. By making use of this technology it helps breed selection in improving litter size of pig pollution, and achieves significant improvement effect and increases litter size by 0.5~1.5 piglets. They have collaborated with PIC, the largest pig breeding company in the world, made use of this technology to select multiple litter size characters of pig lines and achieved very good results. This technology has been applied in 7 domestic pig breeding companies for 3 years and gained a new economic benefit of 13.6834 million RMB.
