Not long ago, the recently completed state key project entitled “Study on the Breeding and Technology of Dwarf-Leg Yellow-Feather Broiler during the “Ninth Five-Year Plan” completed by the Institute of Animal Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has been awarded the First Prize of Science and Technology in CAAS.
This research achievement has applied modern genetic breeding theory to introduce chick chain dwarf gene into yellow feather broiler. This study has adopted pedigree selection method based on cock progeny identification and developed special lines of Dwarf-Leg Yellow-Feather Broiler with different characters through line breeding of over 5 generations. The research has screened out 3 Jing Xing Yellow-Feather lines to suit different market demands. The new lines and matched lines have all passed the test by the state poultry performance test station, and reached the requirement of quality broiler production.
