First Animal Gene Engineering Vaccine Came Out in the Sichuan
Agricultural University
China¡¯s first animal gene engineering vaccine came out in
the Sichuan Agricultural University. This has created a forerunner
of practical application of animal virus gene engineering
vaccine in China.
According to introduction, pseudo-rabies is an acute infectious
disease caused by pseudo-rabies virus in swine, cattle, sheep,
goat and many other livestock, poultry, as well as wildlife.
Swine is the major host and infectious source of this disease.
Swine pseudo-rabies has a world distribution at present time;
its epidemic is in an increasing trend, which causes enormous
losses to livestock industry.
Through 10 years of conscientious study, Professor Guo Wanzhu
from the Sichuan Agricultural University, has taken the lead
in unfolding study on the biological and molecular biological
characters of pseudo-rabies virus, and successfully constructed
a series of pseudo-rabies gene lacking vaccine strain by using
lacking, recombination and clone and other gene operational
technologies. Recently, one of its landmark achievements is
the ¡°Swine Pseudo-Rabies (Gene Lacking) Live Vaccine (SA215
Strain)¡± has obtained the new state veterinary medicine certificate,
thus, it has become the first animal virus gene engineering
vaccine in China.
The experimental study and large volume of application effect
have proved that this vaccine has the characters of stable
genetics, fine safety, stronger immunogenicity, and unique
capacity against incubation infections as compared with conventional
vaccines and vaccines of the same category, and has reached
the application standard of vaccines of the same category
in the world.
Authoritative experts hold the view that this achievement
has played a decisive role in the implementation of prevention
and control measures against pseudo-rabies and the final eradication
of pseudo-rabies in China.
