Yunnan Agricultural University has recently developed a feed additive with natural plant effective ingredient as it’s the main content, which has opened up a new means in solving meat food safety problems and the “green barrier” in livestock and poultry product export from China.

The formula of this kind of feed additive has used Astragalus root, Angelica sinensis, Paeonia lactiflora pallas, Poria cocos, red sage root and other Chinese medicinal herbs as its basic formula, and there are 3 complex formulas for pigs in different growing period: piglet, medium pig and large pig according to the physiological characters during the 3 growing periods. Through experiment, this kind of Chinese medicinal herb extract has fairly strong antiseptic capacity and has fairly strong bacteriostatic effects, such as the major pig intestinal pathogens: E. coli, Salmonella, Proteus, Streptocoaus and other bacteria. Through antibiotics and excitant residue examination of pork and entrails in pigs fed with feed added with Chinese medicinal herbs feed additive, this kind of feed additive has been proven to be residue-free, non-drug-resistant and pollution-free.
