New State Standards for Import and Export of Fresh and Frozen Poultry Products

Recently, the State Administration for Quality Supervision, Examination and Inspection and the Ministry of Public Health had jointly issued a circular that the import and export of fresh and frozen poultry product must implement the new national standard (GB16869-2000 ”°Fresh and Frozen Poultry Product”±). This standard is appropriate for the fresh and frozen poultry products processed from slaughtered healthy live poultry. For the fresh and frozen poultry product of all domestic production or import from abroad, the technical requirement, examination methods, labeling, packaging, and storage must accord with this standard. Meanwhile, the following standards are annulled: ”°GB2710-1996 --- Fresh (frozen) Poultry Meat Health Standard”±, ”°GB/t16896-1997 --- Cut Fresh (frozen) Poultry Meat Health Standard”±, ”°GB-T2710-1997 --- Cut Fresh (frozen) Chicken Meat Health Standard”±, and the merging version or revised version of the two previous standards.

The major technical differences exist in the following 3 aspects:
¢Ł The sensory requirement and physical and chemical target of the GB/t16896-1997 standard are broken down into Grade I and Grade II, but the revised version did not have the grade
¢Ś The content of volatile chloride Nitrogen has be adjusted to less than 20 mg/100g.
¢Ū The new Standard has increased the limitation standard of 19 items, which did not appear in the old standards of GB2710-1996 and GB/t16896-1997: HCl-clenbutrol, terramycin, aureomycin and microorganisms (total colony, E. coli, salmonella, and diarrhea E. coli).
