A Major Revolution of Livestock Production-Ministry of Agriculture is Actively Pushing Forward Modernized Livestock Raising in China

To transfer soon from extensive raising to intensive feeding in livestock and poultry in order to realized modernization of animal husbandry in China, improve quality of livestock products and ability for market competition, insure safety of livestock products and people¡¯s health and to increase farmers¡¯ income, the Ministry of Agriculture of China had put forward ¡°The Directions on Putting Forward Modernization Method for Livestock and Poultry Raising¡±
It pointed out that in most rural areas in China, it is common for people to stay together with livestock and poultry which are loosely raised, leading to difficult management and high incidence of infectious disease and constraining sustainable development of livestock production. Transfer of raising method is a major revolution of animal production.
It also pointed out that at present and in the future, the directing thoughts of pushing forward modernized raising methods of livestock and poultry are: with overall, coordinated and sustainable concept of scientific development as directions, strengthen further policy direction and support, standardized production, epidemic control, environmental protection, monitoring management and socialized service to develop moderate scale operation, speed up large scale, specialized and industrialized production, improving quality of livestock product and its ability for market competition, etc.
Besides, in suburbs of large and medium cities and economic developed areas, modern animal husbandry should be developed, and common commercial raising of livestock and poultry should be moved into agricultural zones. Standardized sub-zone and large-scale animal farms should be developed in major livestock production and broad agricultural zones. Housing and semi-housing method will be gradually extended in pastoral zone and semi-pastoral and semi-agricultural zones, combined with grassland ecological protection.
